Golfing with Max
I had my first golf outing today with Max and his mother, Sarah. I believe Sarah is the only family member to have a hole in one - others claim that the six pack of beer she had prior to shooting that was instrumental, so I was a little intimidated to get on a course with her. However, we had many lessons afforded us today. We learned right away that when you play with a grouchy twosome behind you that you cannot walk through a sand trap without raking it. (Really? Max's feet hardly made an impression and it was so much fun for him - just like being on a beach!) We also learned that there is only one speed with the gas pedal on the cart - extremely fast. Max said his score for the day was 10, and then later changed it to 7. I thought that was a good way to keep score. I shot a 66, no make that a 46. It is also good to note that if anyone wants to get Sarah something for her birthday/Christmas/Mother's Day/or any other reason - she could use a rubber band to tie up her bag stand so she doesn't impale herself every time she picks up her bag. Also a pair of new golf shoes, something a little more current than her vintage 1980 spikes she sports now. Also noticed that she didn't have tees - kind of hard to drive a ball without one. And, a broom to brush off all those cobwebs stuck to her bag. Can hardly wait to play with her next week at Egypt Valley. Seriously.....she can hit the snot out of a ball even with all those aforementioned distractions AND with clubs that match the year of her shoes. I wish I was 30-something again and not at home at the moment soaking my sore ankles, knees, wrists, elbows, hips and shoulders. It was such a fun day and would have loved to have played 18 like I used to do "back in the day". All in all, we played all 9 in just under two hours - we just didn't finish the ones that we scored 15 or more on before we got to the green! I think Max likes to play, so perhaps a set of clubs that are shorter than he is would help him to improve his score from a 7 to maybe a 4?
