Burros
Now, on to why I wanted to start this blog. Two weeks ago I was riding with Sarah and her boys to Birch Run for an annual shopping trip. On the way we talked about many things, but one that stuck with me was the recounting of an article that Sarah had read that morning in her local paper. Apparently, the City of Rockford had applied for and recieved a Pure Michigan grant to import burros to promote tourism in this quaint little town. Sarah had all the details of where the burros would "range roam" (between 10 Mile and the River), they were free to be petted, and most importantly that the first "importation" was to happen in the coming week. She talked about taking her children to see the "burros" and how much fun that would be. Her loving and very interested husband Jason, also heard the story from Sarah later that day and they made plans to go see the burros the next week. Well as her life sometimes does not always go according to plan, they didn't get downtown that week, but this week was for sure! On Wednesday Jason mentioned to a partner at his very prestigous law firm (and where he is hoping to become a partner someday) that his family was going to see the burros. You can imagine his embarrassment as his partner told him that the article was published on April 1st and was an April Fools joke. I am still laughing - not so much at them but at me who also believed with all my heart that my grandkids were going to share in a once-in-a-lifetime experience in their hometown. As my daughter so aptly put it: "Perhaps we will still go, so others can view the only 'asses' who probably believed that story!"
