On the occasion of Max's fifth birthday, I called to sing him "Happy Birthday". When I finished, I asked him what he had done special for his day. His reply, "Nothing". Feeling a need to explore that answer, I asked him, "Why?" He told me that his mom had made him "get off the Wii" - apparently after many hours of being engrossed in a SpongeBob Squarepants game. I then told him what I had told all my kids on their birthdays - "It is your day and you can do whatever you want" - and suggested that he remind his mother of that. Not knowing for sure if that message was relayed to my eldest child, I soon found out.
About a week later I received a phone message from my daughter who was preparing for a grand celebration of Max and Connor's birthdays - "Just wanted you to know that after having told Max he couldn't eat the birthday cake before the guests arrived, he informed me that he could do whatever he wanted because Grandma Jo-Jo said so." So, I guess he did listen, but more importantly - What goes around, comes around!!!
